Supplementation
While
most people feel that they are eating a sufficient diet, studies
continue to illustrate the high incidence of sub-clinical
nutritional deficiencies. It is estimated that 50 percent
of the US population has at least one, two. or three marginal
nutrient deficiencies, regardless of socio-status. (HANES
Study-US Dept of HEW-1974). The study showed that 50 percent
of the population studied had intake below RDA levels of vitamins
A and C, and the minerals calcium and iron.
Today we live in a world of nutrient-depleted soil,
chemical-laced foods, highly processed foods, "fast food."
and excess sugar and fat (the US average consumption is 24
percent of calories from sugar and 42 percent from fat).
Marginal deficiencies of essential nutrients like selenium,
molybdenum, vanadium. magnesium, etc. are thought to be very
prevalent. These sub-clinical deficiencies can affect mental
acuity, the body's ability to cope with stress and fight disease,
and feeling of well-being. So it is simple to see why taking
a good multiple vitamin and mineral supplement can help one
feel better.
Older individuals, even if consuming a good balanced
diet, are at perhaps the greatest risk of deficiencies due
to decreased caloric intake, impaired absorption and other
factors. The Canadian Medical Association journal (Dec. 1991)
reported that deficiencies of calcium, zinc, iron, and vitamin.
C, D, and A were extremely common among older individuals.
An additional study revealed that elderly individuals have
low intake levels of Folacin, vitamin A, calcium, and zinc
(both sexes) and vitamin B-12 (women only). (Journal of Canadian

In addition to the elderly, individuals who are at
risk for nutritional deficiencies include: Adolescents, diabetics,
smokers, alcohol users, dieters. strict vegetarians, oral
contraceptive users, pregnant women, women of child bearing
years, and individuals in a low income group.

ENZYMES
Enzymes
are the 'Key to Life'. The may be the single most
importand factor in our health .Heating over 118º,
micro waving, or other harsh processing destroys all the
enzymes. So needless to say the SAD (standard American diet)
is almost completely void of them. Some scientists believe
that without enzymes being present, that we are not able to
utilize the vitamins and minerals even if they are present
in the food. One experiment was with cows. They fed a group
of calves their own mothers milk, but they pasteurized (heated)
it first. Within 6 weeks, all the calves died. It's been said
that a lack of enzymes can cause indigestion, reflux, allergies,
fatigue, asthma, gas bloating, obesity, and there even seems
to a connection with auto-immune diseases. Digestive enzymes
are made by the body to digest our food and can also be taken
in supplemental form with meals. Most people notice improvement
in any digestive problem they may be having right away, especially
if they ate lactose deficient. I choose one that combines
multiple enzymes with chlorophyll and trace minerals as well.
Another way to use enzymes is in-between meals, proteolytic
enzymes are usually used for this purpose. On an empty stomach,
these enzymes go directly into the blood stream and work as
anti-inflammatory agents and to disolve scar tissue. These
include Bromalaine, Serrapeptase, Papain, Trypsin, Chymotrypsin.
Enzyme are what make our food alive.

known as ‘friendly bacteria’ , our health and
well being is dependant on it. Many health professionals are
beginning to proclaim that the proper balance
, or imbalance, of bacteria in our intestines may be the key

ANTIOXIDANTS
Antioxidants are
substances that squelch free radicals! Simply described, free radicals are molecules with electrons
that are unpaired. Molecules are basic building blocks in
nature, such as oxygen, fatty acids, amino acids, glucose,
and DNA. Molecules are held together by electrons. Stable
molecules have electrons that are in pairs, like a buddy system.
But if a molecule has an electron that does not have a partner,
it becomes unstable and reactive a free radical. It will steal
an electron from a stable molecule. Once the stable molecule
loses an electron, it becomes another free radical. This second
free radical will steal an electron from a third molecule,
and a destructive cycle begins. Each time a molecule loses
an electron, it is damaged and will damage another molecule.

of the theory.
"Very few individuals, if any, reach their potential maximum
life span. They die, instead, prematurely of a wide variety
of diseases - the vast majority being ‘free radical
diseases’."
The leading authorities believe that the following diseases are
caused, or are contributed to, by free radicals: weakened
capillaries; arteriosclerosis; high cholesterol; allergies;
asthma; hay fever; cataracts; lipid peroxidation; cancer;
stroke; phlebitis; Alzheimer’s; gout; diabetes; MS inflammation;
arthritis; Parkinson’s; diabetic retinopathy; skin disorders;
ADD; ADHD; cardiovascular disease, Fibromyalgia.
Antioxidants are compounds that
sacrifice themselves to oxygen, thus preventing it from reacting
with other compounds. They not only protect, they also stimulate
the immune response to help fight existing disease. They also
normalize the balance of hormone-like substances that control
pain, inflammation and fever. Can’t the body make its
own antioxidants to fight this free radical problem? Yes,
and it does. However, in the last 50 years, our air, water,
and food has become so polluted with chemicals, radiation,
and waste that our bodies can no longer keep up, and it has
become a losing battle. Supplementation with antioxidants
has become almost a necessity. According to the Medical Tribune
(1992), eight out of ten doctors do supplement their own diets
with antioxidants. The most popular antioxidants are Vitamin
A (Betacaritine), Vitamin E, Vitamin C, the mineral Selenium,
and the proanthrocyadins (OPCs).
Each antioxidant
works a little differently in the body, but they are all destroying
free radicals. The proanthrocyadins seem to be much more potent.
They are flavanoids and are found in pine barks like Pycnogenol and Enzogenol, green
tea, grape seeds, and grape skins. They have been shown to
be 50 times stronger than Vitamin E, and 20 times stronger
than Vitamin C as an antioxidant. They stay in the body up
to 72 hours, as compared to Vitamin C, which lasts only about
3-5 hours. Proanthrocyadins have remarkable bioavailability,
and they even cross the blood- brain barrier. The original
studies were done with the Maritime Pine Tree bark, and that
is what is patented in North America as Pycnogenol. Grape
seed and skin, as well as Green Tea, have many of the same
qualities, but to a lesser extent.
COULD THERE BE ANYTHING STRONGER?
YES!! There is now a 2nd generation of proanthrocyadins with
a new technology for processing using only pure water as a
solvent to extract the nutrients. It is called ENZOGENOL,
as seen on CNN (August, 1998). It is extracted from the Pinus
Radiata Tree grown in the pure environment of New Zealand.
(The trees are already being felled for lumber. No tree is
cut down just for bark.) Studies on this new nutritional substance,
done at the University of Canterbury, have shown that it has
all that Pycnogenol has and even more. Many double blind studies
were done with mice and humans, and are documented in the
book The Enzogenol
Story by Dr Kelvin Duncan.
MINERALS
Minerals are natural
elements found on the earth, developing from the gradual breakdown
of rock, stone, plant matter, and microbes, over time. The
bulk of the plant matter is processed further by humification.
In this process, microbes condense and repackage organic minerals
into a more digestible form for plants and animals. The resulting
compacted (humic) soil contains a full spectrum of major and
minor minerals essential to sustain life. They are also ound
in water and sea vegetation. These minerals can then be put
in a colloidal or ionic liquid form and are the easiest way
to assure yourself that you are getting all your trace minerals
on a daily basis. The Ionic are the smallest size, and therefore
probably absorb the most effectively. No need to be concerned
about overdosing. Your body will pick and choose what it needs
that day, and ignore the rest, if you supply it with a 'daily
buffet'. The products I choose are a combination of organic
complexes, powerful electolyles, and over 70 trace minerals.
A great source of energy to the body, electrolytes are indispensable
to keeping every cell functioning inside our body and allowing

salt that causes the health problems, not the salt itself.
I use a 24 K salt product or celtic salt.
In our world of Superbugs,
AIDS, rampant Cancer and auto-immune diseases, we better well
look at supplements that can build our immune system. Most
people are familiar with herbal products like Echinacea, Astragalus,
Pau D’Arco, and the like. I would like to introduce
you to little less known, but powerful, immune system enhancers:
Beta Glucan, Shark Liver Oil, Aloe Vera Juice, and Colloidal
Silver.
Beta-Glucan is one
of the newer kids on the block. Beta-Glucan is a soluble
fiber-type complex sugar (polysaccharide) primarily derived
from the cell wall of baker’s yeast and to a lesser
extent from oats, barley, and certain medicinal mushrooms.

nutrition.

Shark Liver Oil
Shark Liver Oil is
taken from deep water sharks. Shark Liver Oil, and not cartilage,
is proving to be one of the most powerful immune system enhancers
known. Its active ingredient, alkyl glycerol (AKG), is found
in smaller amounts in human breast milk and bone marrow; AKG
is not found in plants. It provides protections against toxicity
from certain drugs and radiation, as well as providing a regressive
effect on tumors. AKG has been shown to also be effective

I choose on that has 35% AKGs with
the Vit A & D removed to avoid toxicity.
Aloe Vera is mentioned 5 times in the Bible. Whole leaf Aloe Vera
juice has been shown to have benefits for the immune system,
digestive system, and for proper inflammatory response. It
contains over 200 natural active compounds and nutrients.
Most products on the market, however, have been shown to be
mostly water, so buyer beware.
My choice is one that
not only is a cold pressed, whole leaf aloe, but it
is fortified with extra Mannapol for better immune function.
Silver has been known
for centuries to one of the most effective topical bacteria
killing substances. It is effective against 650 different
disease causing organisms, including candida , E-coli , malaria,
and even anthrax, and will not lead to silver resistant strains.
In its colloidal suspension it can be used internally, and
it is completely nontoxic. It can also be used topically
in the eyes, ears, or on a wound. Many people use it
in a spray or dropper in the nostrils or throat for preventive
reasons, and even in a nebulizer.
Quality is important and the ppm
is important. Many people are getting home generators
and making it themselves. I wouldn’t trust this
method at this point in time. I choose a brand that
has been tested for its purity, it’s potency
and it’s effectiveness. Studies have show that this

is very beneficial for all types of cardiovascular problems.
